What This Drill Improves

This basketball drill is best for advanced players who need focused work on dribbling. It works well with 8 players and can be adjusted by changing the space, pressure, or scoring rules.

Setup

Players spread on half court, 2 balls each.

Instructions

  1. Simultaneous dribble — both balls hit at same time. 30 sec.
  2. Alternating dribble — balls alternate. 30 sec.
  3. One high, one low. 30 sec each combo.
  4. Crossover with one ball while other stays. 30 sec.

Coaching Points

✓ Eyes up — no looking at either ball.
✓ Push through, don't slap.
✓ Breathe — tension kills coordination.

Common Mistakes to Watch For

  • Players losing focus on the main coaching point.
  • The drill area being too large or too small for the group.
  • Progressing the drill before the basic pattern is clean.

Progressions: Make It Harder

→ Add movement — walk then jog.
→ Figure-8 with one ball while other stays.
→ Partner calls which hand to dribble higher.

Regressions: Make It Easier

Reduce the number of defenders or make pressure passive for the first few rounds.
Increase the playing space so players have more time to make decisions.
