What This Drill Improves

This soccer drill is best for beginner players who need focused work on finishing. It works well with 10 players and can be adjusted by changing the space, pressure, or scoring rules.

Setup

3 stations around the penalty area. Queue of players cycles through each.

Instructions

  1. Station 1: Drive and shoot from 20 m.
  2. Station 2: Receive, turn and shoot.
  3. Station 3: One-two with server then finish.
  4. Each player completes all 3 stations in rotation.

Coaching Points

✓ Plant foot beside the ball.
✓ Strike through the middle of the ball for power.
✓ Pick a corner before shooting.

Common Mistakes to Watch For

  • Players rushing the finish before setting their body shape.
  • Shots aimed without looking at the goalkeeper or target area.
  • Runs arriving too early, making the finish predictable.

Progressions: Make It Harder

→ Add a passive goalkeeper.
→ First touch must be away from goal before turning.
→ Score target: 3 out of 5 at each station.

Regressions: Make It Easier

Walk through the pattern first, then build up to game speed.
Use larger targets or more space to help players succeed early.
