Jump Serve Development
Players develop the jump serve — toss, approach, jump, and contact — with accuracy targets.
Setup
Server behind end line. 3 target zones marked with cones on opposite side.
Instructions
- Phase 1: toss practice only — 10 tosses, consistent height and placement.
- Phase 2: full approach without jump — 10 reps.
- Phase 3: full jump serve — 15 serves, call target before each.
- Score: target hit = 2pts, in-court = 1pt, fault = 0.
Coaching Points
✓ Toss in front — not above the head.
✓ Approach like a spike approach — 3-4 steps.
✓ Contact at the highest point with a full arm swing.
Progressions
→ Live serve receive — adds pressure.
→ Specific zones only (e.g., zone 1 for 5 serves straight).
→ Competition: who reaches 15 points first.
