Scrum Technique — Pod Work
Forwards practise binding, body position, and driving mechanics in the scrum.
Setup
Pods of 3 (prop-hooker-prop) against scrum machine. Progress to full 8.
Instructions
- Bind early and tightly — shirt grab behind armpit.
- Crouch-bind-set sequence in match timing.
- Drive through the machine for 5 seconds.
- Reset and repeat. 6 sets per pod.
Coaching Points
✓ Flat back — no arching or dipping.
✓ Hips drive up and through, not forward.
✓ Bind tight — loose bind = weak scrum.
Progressions
→ Full 8-man scrum.
→ Add a ball and channel it for the scrum half.
→ Compete — attacking vs defending scrum.
