Setup

Defender starts under the basket. Offensive player stands at 3-point line with ball.

Instructions

  1. Coach passes to offensive player.
  2. Defender sprints out to close out — chop steps at the last second.
  3. Offensive player may shoot or drive.
  4. Defender must contest shot or stay in front on drive.

Coaching Points

✓ Chop steps to avoid running past the shooter.
✓ Hand up in the shooting lane — not at the ball.
✓ Stay low on the drive — don't lunge.

Progressions

→ Offensive player uses one dribble before deciding.
→ Add a second offensive player as a kick-out option.
→ Defender must talk — call ball on closeout.
