What This Drill Improves

This soccer drill is best for advanced players who need focused work on finishing. It works well with 8 players and can be adjusted by changing the space, pressure, or scoring rules.

Setup

Place servers left, right, and central. Finishers rotate through a starting cone near the penalty spot.

Instructions

  1. Coach calls a server.
  2. Finisher checks away then attacks the ball.
  3. Finish must be one touch.
  4. After shot, finisher joins a server line.

Coaching Points

✓ Adjust feet before the ball arrives.
✓ Use inside foot for placement and laces for power.
✓ Body shape determines where the finish goes.

Common Mistakes to Watch For

  • Players rushing the finish before setting their body shape.
  • Shots aimed without looking at the goalkeeper or target area.
  • Runs arriving too early, making the finish predictable.

Progressions: Make It Harder

→ Add a defender applying pressure.
→ Make service random and faster.
→ Score only first-time goals into corners.

Regressions: Make It Easier

Reduce the number of defenders or make pressure passive for the first few rounds.
Increase the playing space so players have more time to make decisions.
