What This Drill Improves
This soccer drill is best for intermediate players who need focused work on possession. It works well with 6 players and can be adjusted by changing the space, pressure, or scoring rules.
Setup
Mark a 10×10 m square. 4 attackers on the outside, 2 defenders in the middle.
Instructions
Attackers must complete 10 consecutive passes without the defenders touching the ball.
If a defender wins the ball, the attacker who lost it becomes a defender.
Rotate defenders every 90 seconds if they can't win the ball.
Coaching Points
✓ Encourage one- and two-touch passing.
✓ Receivers should open their body and show for the ball.
✓ Defenders work in pairs — one press, one cover.
Common Mistakes to Watch For
Players standing still after passing instead of creating a new angle.
Passes played too slowly, allowing defenders to recover.
Receivers taking their first touch into pressure.
Progressions: Make It Harder
→ Limit to one-touch only.
→ Add a neutral player to make it 5v2.
→ Shrink the grid to increase pressure.
Regressions: Make It Easier
Start without defenders, then add pressure once the movement pattern is clear.
Allow extra touches until players understand the timing.
