Breathing Control — Hypoxic Sets
Trains respiratory efficiency and mental toughness through restricted breathing patterns.
Setup
Swimmers in lane. Sets done at moderate pace — not sprint.
Instructions
- 4×25m breathe every 3 strokes.
- 4×25m breathe every 5 strokes.
- 4×25m breathe every 7 strokes.
- Rest 30 sec between 25s. Stop if dizzy — safety first.
Coaching Points
✓ Long exhale underwater — don't hold.
✓ Turn head, not head and shoulders.
✓ Relaxed face — no clenching.
Progressions
→ Alternate sides per 25m.
→ Distance per stroke challenge — count and improve.
→ 200m at 5-stroke breathing pattern.
